1. What are your independent and dependent variables?
The independent variable is the intensity of light used during the experiment
The dependent variable is the absorbance rate
2. What is an autotroph?
An autotroph is an organism with the capability of making energy. For instance, from the
experiment, the spinach is an autotroph because it contains organic molecules that are
created from inorganic raw materials through the use of sunlight energy
3. What is a heterotroph?
A heterotroph is an organism that depends on foods like carbohydrates and proteins made
by other organisms.

4. What is carbon fixation?
This is the first step in the Calvin cycle or the light-independent stage. It is the process
through which carbon is converted into organic materials (carbohydrates) through
photosynthesis.
5. What is reduction?
Reduction is one part of the oxidation-reduction process during photosynthesis.
Reduction occurs when photosynthesis transfers electrons from H
2
O to the CO2
molecules that have no energy. During this process CO2 gains electrons; hence reducing
whereas H
2
O oxidizes by losing electrons
6. What are the two main stages of photosynthesis and where do they take place?
The two main stages of photosynthesis are light-dependent stage and light-independent
stage. Light-dependent stage takes place in the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast. In
this membrane, there are two photosystems that have electron transport proteins and
chlorophylls.
The light-independent stage takes place in the stroma of a plant.
7. What is the source of electrons for the Light-Dependent stage?
There are two sources of electrons in the light-dependent stage, namely, the electrons in
the chlorophyll and the electrons from splitting of water
