HPI: Tom is a 45-year-old Caucasian male that appears to be a reliable historian that has
presented to the clinic with a severe flare up of his atopic dermatitis (eczema) and a new
complaint of right knee pain. Tom states that his flare up started roughly one month ago that has
been really bad in the bends of his arm rating it a nine out of ten on a severity scale. Tom states
that he is also having pain in his right knee which he suffered an injury while playing basketball
with his college buddies four days ago. Tom states that the itching is so bad that it is keeping him
awake at night and now his skin has cracks in it that is starting to bleed. Tom likes to take warm
showers and he has noticed that the itching has progressively gotten worse after he takes hot
showers. One of the relieving factors for Tom is that he is using over the counter hydrocortisone
cream which he states helps a little bit. Tom has suffered from eczema flare ups in the past on
occasion. Tom reports that he injured his right knee while playing basketball four days ago with
