INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR HYDROCHLORIC ACID 2
Introduction
Hydrochloric acid (HCL) refers to a colorless solution that is composed of Hydrogen
Chloride molecules. It has a strong sharp smell that is unpleasant all times. The smell of this acid
is similar to that of rotten eggs. It is mostly used in the manufacture of vinyl chloride for PVC
(Polyvinyl chloride) plastics and Toluene diisocyanate (TDI). Also, HCL has numerous small-
scale uses that range from household cleaning, food additives, leather processing and many
others. Hydrochloric acid is a corrosive and dangerous chemical in nature. Maximum care should
be observed especially in schools and other institutions that involve laboratory experiments. All
activities dealing with the hydrochloric acid must actively involve the attention of the institution
administrators, instructors, non-teaching staffs and students. Therefore, the paper discusses both
the instructions manual on how to use Hydrochloric acid as well as the organization manual at
large.
Part 1: Hydrochloric Acid Instructions Manual
Protective measures producing and handling of Hydrochloric Acid
Since hydrochloric acid is a strong corrosive reagent, its important to note that before
any activity involving the chemical anti-acid equipment’s should be worn i.e. apron, gloves and
protective eyewear all the times while working with the acid. All activities and works with HCL
should be done in special chambers called fume chambers in the laboratory or rooms and
locations with free air circulations while in the fields.
