LEADING CAUSE OF DEATHS 2
Heart disease
Heart disease is the leading cause of present deaths worldwide and mostly in Europe and the
United States. Heart disease generally refers to a condition that causes blocked blood vessels
leading to heart attack, chest pains and even a stroke. Other forms may occur as effects on heart
muscles, valves and heartbeats.
Normally, heart disease occurs when your heart’s blood supply is interrupted by a build -up of
fatty compounds in the coronary artery that leads blood into the heart. The build-up of fatty
compounds increases over time and the walls of the coronary arteries become filled up with the
fatty deposits all around them through the process of atherosclerosis. This condition is mostly
caused by:
Excessive smoking
High cholesterol intake
Hypertension and
High blood sugar.
Prevalence data in graph
The following data represents the cases of heart disease prevalence according to age and
lifestyles or poor, intermediate or ideal level.
