CONSTRUCTING HIGH QUALITY ARGUMENTS
2
An argument can be described as the reason or reasons that one gives to others in order to
be able to fully convince them that a certain idea or a particular course of action is right or wrong.
It is therefore very important to construct arguments that are very strong that will achieve the
intended objective (Boersma and European Science Education Research Association, 2015). In my
daily life, being in a position to construct high quality arguments is beneficial since it through it
that I can be able to convince that it is very wrong to torture others. There is need to provide valid
evidence on why it is wrong for instance the problems that a person tortured goes through and they
might even suffer for the rest of their life.
It is also important to have the skill of evaluating the quality of reasoning. When a person
decides to torture the other, they often give their own reasons behind the same. The skill is
therefore important since one would be in a position to make a better choice other than to torture
a person (Eemeren and Garssen, 2012). There are other actions that one can take such as having a
one on one conversation with the person so as to find out why they behaved in the way they did
instead of torturing them. Torture is quite painful and destructive.
As I have been developing my writing assignments, the objections that are likely to occur
are one of the considerations that I make. This is in order to develop arguments that would be in a
position to counter those objections since if the writing is not able to achieve that, then it would
not be very useful. Present arguments that are practical since they are more credible. In order to be
fair to both sides, first do a thorough study to understand both of them and what their weaknesses
and strengths are so that you do not end up oppressing one party (D'Errico, Poggi, Vinciarelli and
Vincze, 2015).
