Holistic Philosophical, Theoretical, and Ethical Principles
A holistic nurse recognizes peoples health experiences as a dynamic combination of
wellness, health, and diseases. Various holistic principles guide their nursing practices. One
of them is the patient-centered philosophy, which ensures that the patient is the focus of
nursing practice by advocating for patients individual preferences (Demirsoy, 2017). Holistic
nurses are also guided by the theory of integral nursing, which shifts their consciousness to a
deeper understanding of knowing, doing, and being. Additionally, holistic nurses are guided
by the ethical principle of being option givers, as the individual is the ultimate authority over
their health experience.
Integrative Nutrition
Nutrition plays a vital role in holistic medicine. Recently, experts have developed a
new field known as integrative nutrition, which combines food, vitamins, and other
supplements to optimize individuals health and treat various illnesses. The concept goes
beyond counting calories in promoting individuals well-being (Wisneski & Clay, 2017).
Integrative nutrition is the foundation of holistic practice because diets have a prominent role
in promoting health and general wellness. Food and nutrition play an essential role in
integrative medicine because they focus on the whole being, not just the physical.
Holistic Caring Strategy
Holistic care recognizes the interdependence of ones physical, mental, emotional,
social, and spiritual being. Therefore, an effective, caring strategy should incorporate an
individuals thoughts, attitudes, and emotions to ensure fast recovery and satisfaction with
treatment (Zamanzadeh et al., 2015). An effective holistic caring strategy should not just
