RELAPSE PREVENTION PLAN
Relapse prevention
The client is Jed; he is a welder in a welding plant. He is 38 years old and currently
married with two daughters. One is 8 years old and the other is 6 years old. Jed has been
married to Emily for 8 years now. Emily is concerned about the situation of Jed and has tried
to help him severally. They frequently argue about his drunkenness and she sees him as lousy
father. Jed is not always there for his wife Emily and the daughters and he knows that Emily
is not okay with it. He considers that if his marriage fails, it is his fault and he will never
blame Emily for it.
Jed was raised by both his parents, his mother is a spiritual staunch woman who is
always concerned about Jeds situation. She has tried to assist Jed by telling him that
Christianity could be the only way out. The problem is that Jed does not consider that being
an option and he does not like it when God is being mentioned to him. Jeds father was a
drunkard and actually died when he was drunk after an argument in the road. Jed hates when
he is being compared with his father and always provides that he is not like him.
Jed has realised his problem and has endeavoured to change. Currently he has found
himself being in the court because of a drinking and driving. According to his lawyer,
dropping his drinking habit and starting AA sessions could be the only way to prevent him
from spending his life behind bars. He has currently agreed to commit to attending AA at least
in the meantime to ensure that he is not jailed.
Jed knows that he can go to club with his friends and not drink. He also knows that his
wife and mother can help him recover in the instances or relapse. He plans to increase his
involvement with sports since that helps him to stop drinking. He also knows that his
commitment with job can also help him.
