Redefining Ideas About Death
When it comes to transplants, there have been huge changes in the past few years over what can be
transplanted. Instead of it only being an internal organ like a heart or a lung, now there are ways to do
transplants on things that are even like fingers and faces. One thing that is very different from this
concept is the idea of when a transplant can be made. Currently, it needs to happen at the moment
when circulatory death happens and that means that the heart has to have completely stopped beating
for there to be a way that it can otherwise happen. However, there have been many studies that have
shown that these changes can be made and that organs can be transplanted before the moment of
death. However, as a society that also means that we must think about the idea of death and see it as it
is, a process and not something that has tons of mysticism surrounding it.
What is Our Fear of Death?
Every person wishes that he or she might be able to live forever but one thing that is true about that is
that it is simply impossible. There is no way that a person can live forever, and there is no way that he or
she will ever be able to find a way to do so. For these reasons, it is extremely important to realize that
there are many changes that have to happen to the way that society reacts to death. When one person
has a vital organ that can save the life or change the life of another individual who is laying on the table
and may or may not make it, there needs to be a time when it is OK to take the organ of that person.
There needs to be enough the time when you can know that you can take out the organ and provide it
to the person who is in vital need. The real issue though is that the timing that is available for this sort of
thing is so short that it is almost impossible for anyone to be able to have access to the timing that is
needed to move the organ.
