FINANCIAL ANALYSIS FOR APPLE AND MICROSOFT 2
Apple and Microsoft
Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corporation are both electronics companies. However, while
Apple is majorly involved in the manufacturing of high-tech phones, Microsoft is a company that
is known for production of software of the Microsoft Windows brand. Additionally, Microsoft is
also involved in the developing, manufacturing, licenses, supporting and selling of computer
software. Lately, the company also got into the business of manufacturing consumer electronics
and personal computers.
External Financing Need
Every company needs external financing in order to remain afloat and expand its
business. Most of the public companies that are listed on the stock market get their funding from
shareholders. Both Apple and Microsoft are public companies that are listed on the New York
Stock Exchange Market (NYSEM). Therefore, their biggest external financiers are the largest
shareholders.
A causal glance at the Financial Data of Microsoft shows a company that is financially
healthy. Both the revenue and the gross margin have been growing steadily in the company, with
the latest posting in FY 2015 being $ 93,580 millionfor revenue and $ 60,542million for gross
margin (Faas, 2015). Even though the operating income and diluted earnings per share have been
fluctuating, the cash dividends declared per share has been on an upward rise for the last five
years. The same can be said for total assets and long-term obligations. With cash dividends
declared per share on the increase, the company can still be assured of getting more cash from
the shareholders.
