DATA BACKUP AND RECOVERY 2
1. Discuss the differences between the differential backup and transaction log backup.
(detailed answer)
The differential backup is the collective backup of total changes that occurred or were made
since the last full backup. Thus, it is based on the on the last full data backup. The transaction log
back up is different from the differential backup in that it only occurs on an SQL server. It is
essential in the recovery of the database up to a specific point such as the point of failure.
2. How can you make a differential backup of the master database?
For a master database to be done it has to be in recovery status and it is done in the SQL which
does not permit other backup operation to be conducted on the master database. For the
differential backup to carry out it requires to be done in a no recovery state. But SQL cannot
allow the restoration of the master database without a recovery. Master database has to be in
recovery status, therefore, it is not possible to have a differential backup of the master database.
3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the three recovery models. (detailed
answer)
Simple Recovery model has an advantage of allowing high-performance huge copy operations.
In addition, it reclaims the space for logging in order to keep small the space requirement. The
disadvantage changes because of the fact that recent changes that on the differential back up or
database ought to be redone.
