Why we Need Strict Gun Laws
Introduction
In a functional civilized society nurtured on the premise of peace, combat soldiers are the
only ones in charge of holding guns. However, this does not apply to the United States' societies
as gun control is one of the most divisive issues revolving around firearms' legal and illegal use.
One of the substantive studies revealed that the national rate of gun violence in the U.S. is way
high than other high-income countries (Gale, 2021). In 2018, the country experienced 39,740
firearm-related deaths, whereby about thirty and sixty percentiles were linked to homicides and
suicides. However, the issue of gun control is highly controversial as debates over gun laws have
raged for decades. The fact is that gun control laws aim to enhance the efforts laid in restricting
an individual's eligibility to purchase a gun. In contrast, the opponents of gun control laws feel
that gun ownership rights are being violated since the Second Amendment of the US
Constitution supports an individual's right to keep and bear arms. Although the percentage of
Americans who favor the enactment of strict gun laws is on the rise, there are significant partisan
groups that are, however, against the laws. However, with a dramatic increase in gun violence in
recent times, it is arguable that the enactment of strict gun laws could bring about more positive
changes than negatives to American societies.

historical context, it is undeniable that an increase in violent gun-related crimes committed by
young adults in the U.S. in the 1980s and 90s resulted from the proliferation of handguns across
