Generally, the word aligns means to arrange in a line, to cooperate in a certain manner, or
to arrange something in a set way. In research, one of the problems is aligning the research with
the topic of study. Addressing all the parts of the research in the appropriate manner is one of the
difficult tasks for many students. The structure of a research outlines the aspect of the project,
where, when, why, and how it is conducted (Burian et al., 2010).
What is an Aligned Research ?
Research alignment refers to the proper sequencing of research topics that makes it
impressive and recursive (Burian et al., 2010). This means that the research problem, the
research objectives, and the research questions are correctly outlined and related. The keywords
and the methodology of the study should be aligned towards the problem statement, the
objectives, and the research questions. The problem statement should be very precise and clear.
It describes how the research problem will be handled. A perfect alignment considers both
qualitative and quantitative approaches. The two are very crucial in achieving validity and solid
research efforts (Burian et al., 2010) however, research alignment is more on a qualitative
approach. Researchers should be able to discover, explore and understand the research through a
qualitative approach. In addition to this, research alignment refers to good ethical characters in
the field. High research conducts should be considered and integrated into all stages of the
research (Bloomberg, 2012).
Conclusion
Research sequencing is very critical in conducting any project. The research objectives
