Introduction
The fashion industry is among the fastest developing major industries worldwide,
complementing the rapidly expanding technology sector. Garments made of animal fur are often
costly, and an individual wearing it is considered a higher social status. This article sparks debate
on the use of fur in the fashion industry; thus, we see different opinions from designers, activists,
and celebrities in support or against it. Other designers like Jason Wu believed that fur is back to
fashion, while other brands like Calvin Klein were against the idea of killing animals to use their
fur to make luxurious items. Although several individuals appear to be keen to market and
advertise it, no one wants to discuss it.
Jason Wu
Jason Wu, a designer, believed that fur is not a political thing but simply a material, such
as wool or silk, which serves as a blank palette for his creativity. Jason was always looking for
old and iconic products to reinterpret through his generation's views. He says that fur has become
an all-season fabric thanks to modern procedures for dyeing, trimming, and shearing to modify
the texture. He shared his spring 2016 vacation collection, for instance, offers a pink fox fur coat
made of sheared fox and natural fox. Jason believes that fur is going to last for the generation to
come.
The Fur Council of Canada
The Fur Council of Canada promoted the use of fur products in the fashion industry. The
Council has a site named furisgreen.com that supports the idea that sustainable basis fur
coming from farm-raised mink or untamed beaver is a renewable product, but petroleum, the
base of artificial fur, is not. From the article, the Council had also worked to increase openness in
sourcing. This notion gained ground in 2011 when President Obama approved the Truth in Fur
