CLASSICAL THEORY 2
There are basically two main classical theories of management that are known to have
emerged in the beginning of the 20
th
century. The two theories of management are scientific
management an administrative management. Scientific management mainly deals with
associating individuals with their tasks in the work place so that efficiency is utilized fully
(Hill, et al 2014). On the other hand administrative management mainly deals with finding
the most suitable strategy that will deal with creating the most methodical system for
management and organization.
The scientific management theory which is also referred to as the classical theory of
management was first abducted in the early 1900s because managers believed that it was a
theory that could increase the productivity of workers. It was advanced by Fredrick Taylor
and it pushed for a scientific study of how individuals handled their tasks and those workers
who were responsible for them. Initially it was developed to provide workers with whatever
tools that were necessary for output and efficiency maximization but it was criticized for
bringing up an atmosphere that was termed as the assembly line where the workers only did
unskilled jobs. This is one of the main reasons why it is not as favourable as the
administrative theory among most organizations and schools of thought. Despite that fact it is
still favourable to organizations that base their daily activities on tasks that are repetitive like
factories.
The administrative theory of management was developed by Henri Fayol who was
French and worked for a coal mining business. He developed a couple of principles that have
since helped on organizational management and structure. Administrative theory has been the
most favourable theory in most of the organizations that I have been part of. It tries to find a
logical means that is capable of designing the whole organization. The theory mostly works
because it relies or calls for a fair way of division of labour, proper delegation of authority
