Amnesia is the state of total or partial loss of memory from trauma. As evident from the
Chapters five and five and six of the book, “Discovering Psychology, Sixth Edition with DSM5
Update by Hockenbury”, the perspectives of the clinical and research psychologists is different
on uncovering the repressed memory. However, it can be supported that it is possible to cause
amnesia psychologically where the patient’s chances of recovering the old memories are
replaced by false memories when psychologists ask the patients suggestive questions (Loftus,
17). For instance, a therapist can ask some questions to the client in a manner that will create an
image in their mind that they were part of a scene. Since the patient has lost their memory, they
will answer the questions believing that the events occurred in their life, hence retain that as part
of their new memory.
Therefore, the client might create a false image of occurrence of events in the past and
assume that something happened while in the reality it did not occur. The research does no harm
to the abuse survivors. As far as the adult survivors might doubt the truth about their past, the
reality is that they can only access the recovered memory in their mind (Loftus, 23). Rather, it
can be argued that this is a good measure that therapists can use in preventing a victim from the
recovery of bad memories on their abuse.

During the elementary schools, the teachers used to have some positive reinforcements,
particularly on discipline and excellence. The teacher would give some pens to the pupils whose
performance had improved which one would take home for the parents to see. Everyone worked
hard because it made the teachers and the parents happy. Negative reinforcement was done by
motivating indiscipline pupils where they were told the consequences of indiscipline is fail in
life. Most pupils changed because they thought failure is associated with evil and we feared evil.
Besides, there was negative punishment on those students who were undisciplined where the
teacher denied them the chance to go for the school trips with the rest students. This method
worked for us as everybody wanted to go out on trips for new adventures.
I have housetrained my dog on some tricks by operant conditioning in which I taught her
to sit and lift her paw when I mention “sit” and “high five” to her (Kelly, 20). Besides, I trained
her against defecating in the compound, and the dog defecates in the hole made near her cage. I
taught her on the tricks by positive reinforcing because I would give her a retreat once she
obeyed by command. I would repeat this for her until now that she does it freely.
