CHILDHOOD EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND STRESS 2
Abstract
The data used in this study is documented data collected in a research on emotional abuse and
stress in college girls in 2005. The study was conducted by Dr. Julie Battle and her team at
Brenau University in Gainesville, GA. It examined the relationship between childhood emotional
abuse and stress levels in female college students. There was a positive relationship between
childhood emotional abuse and stress hypothesized by Battle (2005), in the study. The students
recorded the data using questionnaires that included; Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and
Student Life Stress Inventory (SSI). The findings could not be generalized to the larger
population due to scarcity as only 256 college students took part in the study. Diversity in future
studies could help in generalizing the findings to the larger population.
