Introduction
The film The Last Laugh is one of the best films directed by F.W. Murnau and written by
Carl Mayer. It is an interesting movie that employees different artistic themes to capture its
audience.
F.W. Murnau
F.W Murnau was the director in the movie ‘’The Last love which was showcased in 1924
which saw him raise to international fame. The movie received several reviews from the New
York Times, was the first movie to have been produced in Germany, and got such fame. Being a
disciple of one of the greatest film directors of his times Reinhardt he derived the movie using a
style called kammerspiele .It is evident that the director employed themes in the film that
included using a theatre with dim lighting and giving actors an accommodation to perform with
higher Subtlety. Murnau by using the expressionist technique, which was new in Germany
during the time of casting the film .Through the use of moving cameras the director, opened a
future for other movies to be filmed using this technique
