Introduction
Prioritizing stuff in life is very important. It allows one to settle down and be able to think about
other stuff. When one gets extra money, they should not have the urge to spend it at once on
unnecessary items. Mrs. Sommers did not have these decisions in her mind when she got the
money and went on a spending spree.
From the first paragraphs we can be able to note that there are quite a number of
important things that Mrs. Sommers need to attend to but does not do so. For instance, she is
supposed to buy a gown for Mag, some shoes for Janie and caps for the boys. Instead, she went
to buy pair of stockings for herself and a shoe. Then ate lunch and attended the theater to watch a
play. The priority items were not taken care of.
Mrs. Sommers spent too much money on herself. She bought herself pair of stockings, a
new shoe, and high priced magazines, high priced lunch and ultimately went to the theater. After
lunch she tipped the waiter. In the end she finds that much of the money she had was gone and
there was nothing substantial she had done with the money.
Husbands like women who are cautious about the way they spend their money. They like
women who prioritize first before they spend the money. The fact that her first intuition was to
go on a spending spree without caring much about the state of her family could make her
husband lose trust in her.
The introductory paragraphs mention how Mrs. Sommers loved seeing her children
happy and good looking. The reader expects her to spend the money on her children. The
opposite happens. She spends all the money on herself, completely ignoring the wants of her
children.
