SHORT STORIES 2
Short Stories
Complete One: Definition
Fiction is defined as literature that creates imaginations rather than focusing on history
and facts and is popularly used in short stories (Galda, Liang & Cullinan, 2016). In other words,
fiction presents characters who are not real in order to open to interpretation.
Short stories are brief prose fictions with no length as compared to novels and can be
read in a single sitting and make the use of plot and other dynamics to a far greater degree.
Therefore, a plot is simply the main events of the play, short story, or even a movie that
is presented in an interrelated sequence and varies according to different structures.
On the other hand, a theme refers to the central idea that is explained in a narrative and
could be divided into either the thematic concept or statement.
Also, setting in stories refer to the historical time and location in which the story takes
place and create the mood for the story (Galda, Liang & Cullinan, 2016). Along with the theme,
character, plot, and style, the setting is also a critical part of the fiction.
In the same regard, the point of view is considered to be the angle of considering things
and shows the opinion or feelings of the individuals involved in the narrative (Galda, Liang &
Cullinan, 2016). It gives the mode and direction in which the reader will have in mind and follow
when reading.
The antagonist is the individual or a group of characters that represents the opposition of
the protagonists who are the main character of a story (Galda, Liang & Cullinan, 2016).
