My goal for considering a Masters degree in Health Services is to closely match my childhood

exposure to the medical field due to the health implications experienced by my diabetic parents,

to my desire to make a significant contribution to the health of citizens in my community through

effective management, clinical operations, and delivery of health care services. As the only child

of the family, I became my parent’s natural caregiver during my first year in High school. Until

then, I did not realize the essence and importance of the affordability and quality of health care

that my parents enjoyed. I believe that a Masters degree in Health Services from Nova Eastern

university will give me the knowledge and skills to develop and expand programs for scientific

research, preventative medicine, medical and vocational rehabilitation, and community health

and welfare at a health care institution.

My academic background in health care administration has fortified me with the requisite skills

to pursue this program and succeed in a challenging interdisciplinary program. I earned a B.Sc.

degree in Health Care Administration at Columbia Southern University a year ago with honors.

Since that time, I have attended several short courses on public health offered. As I listened to

faculties talk about contemporary health issues and efforts to solve them, I saw the range of

problems that public health professionals were trying to solve in innovative ways. These lectures

assisted me gain a basic but thorough understanding of the issues faced in health care today.

Since my initial encounter with these experts, I have continued to learn about public health

issues.

My in-depth research showed that health care services professionals are among the most

important and in demand in the country. I am fascinated by the prospect of combining the basic

human compassion with some of the most innovative and highly developed medical technologies

to provide care for my community. Although I can honestly say that the earning potential of

employment in a large hospital or health care facility is not one of the top priorities, I am glad to

learn that this is a decent paying occupation with opportunity to gain professional experience in

different health care facilities.

Furthermore, my work experiences through different position in various organizations in the

managed health care industry help me garner the necessary personal skills to succeed on the

academic program. My duties as Service Operation Specialist enable me acquire research skills

as I was able to conduct investigations in various customer complaints such as authorization

denials, payments, benefits and eligibility. In addition, I was able to leverage my expertise to

process complex claims and adjustments and improve compliance.

It is my strong conviction that research experience is necessary to succeed in this program, which

I was able to gain through my position as Integrated Specialist. Through this position, I was able

to conduct comprehensive research in provider claims to achieve continual billing accuracy. In

addition, I was selected to support the development of new learning guides for internal
