Spanking Causes Negative Outcomes for Children
Spanking of children is a debate that has been widely debated by people and researchers
all over the world. Some parents have the belief that spanking is the best strategy to use in
disciplining their children, while others believe that it is dangerous for the children's well-being.
Most experts and researchers have been warning and advising people against using spanking as a
form of punishment for children. However, other guardians accept the fact that they have been
using spanking on their children as a form of punishment when they wrong them in different
ways, which stress them. Several people think that the only way to restore order in a home is to
employ a rugged grip. The belief that slapping may influence developmental outcomes has been
handed down through the family. Even though the matter is hotly disputed among peers and
educators alike, there is some doubt that corporal discipline leads to a courteous kid who
diligently follows the rules and regulations set at home and school. Physical punishments like
spanking have consequences for children, and they cause diverse effects to them.
Desperation is the leading cause of spanking to children, and parents are pushed
by feelings of desperation to punish their children. Misbehaviours from children contribute to the
desperation feel. They make parents feel like they are at their endpoint and have no other options
other than spanking the children for their mistakes (Okuzono et al., 64). At this point, parents

feel like they have no other choice, and nothing works other than pouring their anger on the
children by punishing them. If the parents do not seek other options or do not know of the
additional punishment strategies, they may end up choosing spanking as the only option. Parents
may sometimes fail to give the other forms of punishment a chance when they are fixing their
children's behaviours and decide to practice spanking Other reasons as to why parents spank
their children are because they are out of anger, exasperation, and impulse as a result of
frustration attacks.
Frustrations might lead to severe episodes of parents to children where they decide to
spank them severely. In the cases of anger, spanking is always the first option of defence and the
best way of removing or instead pouring the irritation caused by children to their parents
(Pritsker, n.p). It is a solution at the moment of spanking, but it may result in adverse
consequences, which could have been solved through other problem-solving methods. Spanking
is not the best method of solving frustration or anger issues caused by the destructive behaviours
of children. It can modify behaviour at the current time but have diverse effects on the child's
future or even fail to solve the problem in long-term consequences.
Cultural beliefs and norms can be a reason as to why parents and teachers take the
action of spanking children. Some cultures historically believe that physical punishment is the
best mode of punishment that brings about a change of behaviour when administered to children.
The cultural backgrounds of bringing up children give the directions on how children should be
punished and modes of punishment to be applied (Perrin et al., 516). However, the effects of
physical punishment do not change from culture to culture, but from the various types of
punishment. In addition, many types of physical punishments, including spanking, have been
adopted from the colonial rules of punishment and the general impact of colonialism on human
