Time And Logistics 2
Why Time Is Important To Competitive Advantage
Time is an essential part of competitive advantage. The way a company manages time
in production, developing and introducing new products, marketing and distribution,
determines whether that company will be ahead of its competitors. Time is a great strategic
weapon and it’s equivalent to productivity, money, quality, and innovation. Good time
management has enabled many companies to offer wide product lines, reduce costs, enlarge
their market share, and upgrade their products’ technological sophistication (Stalk, 2010).
How Speed Affects Supply Chain Strategy
Supply chain strategy refers to the entire process from the supplier to the consumer.
Speed plays an essential role here. First, the speed at which supply materials are delivered to
the manufacturer will determine how long the production process will take and the time the
finished product will reach the customers. Second, the time taken for the product to move
from the manufacturer to middlemen is essential as it will determine their preparedness in
marketing and reaching to the customer. Thirdly, the retailer or wholesaler should respond
urgently to the customer demand or the customer can go for a competitor.
How Speed Affects Logistics Strategy
Logistics strategy revolves about the distribution within a company. Speed is
important in the entire process. First, offering customers a broad choice of products makes it
easy for them to select what they want in a short time. Second, companies should provide the
product required by customers quickly or else they miss lose such customers to competitors.
