Breast Article
The analysis is based on the article by Ceber et al. (2006) does not explicitly indicate
the incidence of cancer risk in Turkey; however, it is categorized as usual (64.2%), moderate
(28.4%), and strong (7.4%). The seven risk factors for breast cancer in the modified Gail
model are ethnicity/race, current age, age at first live birth, age at menarche, history of
atypical hyperplasia, number of previous breast biopsies, and number of first-degree relatives
with breast cancer. The two screening practices used by the women in the study are breast
self-examination (BSE) and mammography.
The three significant breast cancer risk factors are the history of previous breast
cancer, being 40 years and older and family history of breast cancer. These risks are
significant because of a p-value of less than 0.02(p<0.05), an indicator that the results of the
statistical analysis indicate that the risk is statistically significant.
The unique aspect of the study is the evaluation of the perceived cancer of breast
cancer to the socio-demographics and profession and compare the perceived and computed
risk of breast cancer. The risk perception was a significant factor because it identifies the
trends in understanding breast cancer. The study indicates that the nurses and the midwives
do not have the knowledge of risk factors associated with breast cancer, or they have a
significant fear of breast cancer. The study revealed that the rate of participation in breast
cancer depends on marital status, graduation, profession, and age group. The participants who
were married, those who had graduated with a health vocational high school training, being a
midwife, and those aged 40 years and older were more likely to engage in screening.
