Abortion
Health care ethics state rules and regulations that healthcare personnel should follow
when attending to patients. Moreover, it is essential in enabling physicians to navigate and find
possible solutions to health care dilemmas such as abortion, PAS (patient assisted suicide), and
euthanasia(Haddad & Geiger, 2021). Abortion is one of the widely debated moral issues in health
care is often depicted as an ethical dilemma. Ethical dilemmas are defined as situations where
individuals have only one option but are forced to choose between options that are of equal moral
measure. For example, when a pregnant mother's life is at risk, and the only available solution is
to conduct an abortion to save her, the doctors are often tied between saving the mother or killing
the baby. Medically abortions are defined as the termination of pregnancy with the help of a
licensed physician. Some arguments supported by ethics and morality have arisen to support and
condemn abortion.
First, to condemn abortion, it is argued that it is a form of murder as it takes away
innocent lives. Moreover, it goes against the law that protects the sanctity of life. Second,
abortions often lead to complications such as excessive bleeding, pelvic inflammatory diseases,
and barrenness, which makes the mother's life more miserable. Third, abortion can cause pain,
psychological trauma, and stress to the patient. The pain and guilt experienced by the women
after abortions may lead to emotional breakdowns that, over time, accumulate and lead to anxiety
and depression. Fourth, abortions are common among teenage girls and young women who have
little or no life experience to guide their decisions. Such decisions are often points of regret in
life. Finally, it is against human rights to harm innocent life; the fetus is often harmless and
suffers the consequences of poor decisions made by the mother. Therefore killing them would be
unjust (Grimes, 2015).
