MANAGING GROUPS AND TEAMS 2
Managing Groups and Teams
Introduction
The ability to organize and coordinate a group of individuals who are set to undertake
a particular activity is referred to as a group or team management. Such management is based
on some commitments which usually go hand in hand with viable policies. The role of group
managers is to formulate ideologies which not only leads to the success of the activity but
also maintain the cohesiveness of the group (Chansler, Swamidass & Cammann, 2013).
There is a difference that occurs between a group and a team that must be understood to
know the relevant management techniques applicable. A group refers to an assembly of
individuals who manage their specific efforts. A team, contrariwise, is a group of individuals
who work together towards a common purpose. The objective of this paper is to outline
some of the methods used for the management of both groups and teams.
Teamthink and Groupthink
Teamthink is often regarded as cooperative thinking that involves every member of
the team and aimed towards the success of their objective. Under teamthink, every individual
tries to show care for each other’s perspective (RHEE, 2017). The members are also always
ready to take options which can be deemed viable and effective in achieving their goals.
Every managerial aspect has its benefits and drawbacks, and so does teamthink.
Benefits of Teamthink
Better decisions: - when different people come together to reason over a particular
issue, they tend to come up with divergent opinions. The debates experienced when each of
the members tries to prove a point leads the team to a more viable option.
