Replies: Facilitation
Hello, I agree that facilitation means allowing students to learn something by it being
presented. This technique helps the learners to acquire knowledge and the required skills.
However, it is suitable when the learners have the required expertise. I also agree with you
that facilitation is essential in sociology because an instructor needs to make sure students are
getting what they are supposed to learn. You are setting it up for them to understand what is
being taught. In this case, the instructors need to use positive ways of working with the
learners and other teachers. According to Keirns et al. (2013), topics covered in sociology
include ethnicity and nationality. Stratification is also another topic in sociology. One way an
instructor can use facilitation in a class is through direct instructions and group discussion.

From the case study assignment, I can testify that the professor's facilitation method
was effective. Examples of the facilitation method the instructor used during the sociology
lesson were direct instruction and group learning. Small group teaching is linked with active
learning, while large group teaching involves a one-way process. According to Pollock et al.
(2011), small group teaching improves students' critical thinking. It is also easy for an
instructor to control small groups than large groups. In small group teaching, an instructor
can address the knowledge gap and discover a wide range of ideas and perspectives. On the
other hand, large group teaching may lead to disengagement and lack of cooperation in
classes. It may also be hard for the teachers to get quality time with the students.
