Forming an Image Setting
Step 1
When it comes to the setting of Act I, scene v, one would have to choose a closed setting,
which means that there must be a door setting. The scene opens by saying “enter Lady Macbeth”
which means that there must be an opening that vindicates the stage direction. However, as one
follows the contents of the letter, there is a vivid description of the aspects such as air, raven and
other elements which indicate that there is a connection with the natural environment. It is almost
ironical that Lady Macbeth talks of words such as ‘greatness’ while rebuking the ‘murderous’
ministers. The setting should be seen as a contrast of these actions and should be only open in as

of Lady Macbeth to follow through her initial character. The dim light of the setting would try

indifference and irony of the actions taking place in the scene.
