Artifactual Communication
Artifactual communication refers to the ideas expressed by objects created by human
hands such as clothing, jewelry, aesthetics, color, and even hairstyle. The appearance of an
individual can also be artefactual communication and can express important information about
someone, such as their social status and even personality. Therefore, this essay will evaluate and
interpret the information expressed by objects created by human hands as portrayed in the two
images.
The first image shows that whoever resides in that room is a music lover because there
are guitars and a karaoke system on the floor by the window. The house is also unkempt, which
shows that whoever uses that room does not uphold tidiness, as evidenced by the rumpling of the
bed and how things are not correctly put in order in the room. The room owner may also be a
geographer or loves geography, considering the painting of the solar system put on the wall
above the bed. The house owner is also likely to be staying alone, considering the size of the
room and the stocking of the items in the same room. Also, the room owner can be considered
computer literate, judging from the computer mounted on the desk in one corner of the room.
In the second image, it can be deduced that the house owner is someone established and
having things done in order considering the arrangement of the seats in the seating room as they
are not just randomly placed. Another deduction is that the house owner seems to be a lover of
knowledge who likes to read, evidenced by the rack of books standing by the corner beside the
TV stand. The house owner can also be considered to be a neat person judging from the
arrangement of the room.
In conclusion, artefactual communication involves deducting relevant information about
someone based on visible objects or expressions. Therefore, artefactual information is a form of
non-verbal communication, as demonstrated with the two images discussed above. This essay
