Steps taken to resolve conflicts
Conflicts in organizations are common and they result from various issues both internal
and external. The manager in the organization is mandated with solving such conflicts and
ensuring that employees work together in peace and harmony. There are various essential
methods of solving a conflict in organizations, and in this paper, I will discuss the methods used
in resolving conflicts in an organization with a competitive culture and a cooperative culture, and
the steps involved in resolving such conflicts and how it affects the organizational culture.
When dealing with existing and potential business clients and partners, the most effective
steps to use in managing the differences are; first, express appreciation. It is always important to
appreciate the fact that the conflict had been identified and the parties involved are willing to
solve it. Secondly, express optimism, and in this case, the manager shows the parties that he is
positive that the conflict will be solved and things will go back to normal. The third step is to
state the ground rules, that apply when solving every conflict, and these rules include; no
walking away, no coercion, no physical attacks and everything in the room stays in the room.
Clarifying on these rules helps keep the parties comfortable and allows them to discuss their
issues without fear.
After that, it is necessary to state the issue of discussion, in a non-blameful manner and
using the I-message language. As a manager, it is then important to invite the parties involved to
explain in their own words why they think that that the issue is a conflict. At this point the
manager questions whether that is a conflict or just a misunderstanding between the parties
involved. The manager then allows the people to engage in a dialogue, where they openly
