Question: How do the freedoms reflect Americans' experiences during the I93os?
The four freedoms as outlined and championed by President Roosevelt reflect the
American’s struggles during the 1930s under the historic Great Depression and curtailment of
their freedoms. There were lots of tension between US and other nations, and President
Roosevelt advocated for freedom from fear as an impetus to fostering world security and peace
that were getting out of control. Also, the freedom from want reflects the American’s
experiences of the Great Depression in the 1930s. This particular freedom sought to quell the
then harsh economic situations where citizens were living at the mercy of the government due to
low economic activities. More importantly, it is during the 1930s that the Americans were
experiencing the moral order that dictated much of their conduct, behavior, and choices. Hence
the freedom from fear came as a relief in defining moral order to a better definition of it which
entailed increased friendly cooperation and civilized society. Further, the four freedoms reflects
the Americans experiences in the 1930s where their freedoms were limited, and their aspirations
for a better American future were cast in the free men and women who kept fighting for those
freedoms.
