Negotiation is basically an activity comprising a variety of disciplines from the strategic
view and issues involving arriving at a decision to evaluate alternatives and be in a position to
exchange data ("EU as International Environmental Negotiator," 2016,) The chief objective of
any negotiation is to convert balance of power in attempt to come to an agreement.
I believe that there is gender differences in negotiations (Herbst, Dotan, & Stöhr,
2017,). Mainly gender difference in a negotiation are dependent on language. This is because
men talk over facts and are straight to the point. They also have a tendency to use a powerful and
direct language. Women on the other hand are objective and mostly the language they use is
often in-direct and with limited directives. More often than not women will ask open ended
quizzes that will give them answers to work with. Similarly women use dialogue as a way to
establish a warm connection with people. However men believe conversation is just but a way to
interchange knowledge.
Moreover women value how people relate and are in a position to see someone else’s
point of view. On the other hand men are more aggressive and are in a position to play hard.
Both empathy and antagonism have a critical role in negotiation. Another chief point that show
gender differences in negotiation is establishment of authority. There are certain actions that are
used to ascertain authority and dominance in a negotiation.
Frequently men exhibit behaviors such as leaning on the table, spreading arms on a
table. Whereas women don’t extend their personal room in that manner. Other means men use to
demonstrate authority in a negotiation is looking at a person they are conversing with directly
and raising their voices slightly. They also respond with silence as a tactful way to show
