HCS 483 DISCUSSION 2
Question 1
In a traditional organizational structure, healthcare organizations divide employees along
geographic, functional and professional lines. Each of these groups is assigned a particular role
to play in improving service delivery to the patients. Grouping healthcare practitioners along the
functional line have impacted how these firms operate, and how they design their information
systems (Rexhepi, 2015). Since these groups coordinate to achieve a particular goal, a patient’s
information is distributed amongst these groups and across various departmental information
systems. For the patient’s information to be shared with ease, and without any errors,
information systems designed must incorporate hardware and software that allows the different
groups to modify, and share information in a consistent state (Rexhepi, 2015). In most hospitals,
patient’s information moves across various independent information systems where each of the
systems communicates with other systems in that organization. For this reason, an information
system designed must meet the need of the organizations by allowing the sharing of information
among the various autonomous systems within the organization.
Question 2
Healthcare financing affects how a healthcare facility operates, and how various
decisions are made in that organization. Healthcare organizations require ample funds to
function, and to offer high-quality services to the patients. Research suggests that there is a direct
relationship between the quality of services in a healthcare organization and the level of
financing on that firm (Williams & Brown, 2014). The primary function of a healthcare facility
is to provide cost-effective, and high-quality services to the patients. If the funding to a
healthcare is insufficient, the facility will be unable to meet the health needs of the patients, and
most of the health services offered will be costly, and unaffordable to the patients (Williams &
