Drugs and alcohol are substances used by people, and they change the
normal function of the body. They create an illusion in the mind of the user that
is indeed far from the truth. I believe different drugs react to different people
differently and the reactions vary from one person to the other. When a person
abuses drugs for a long time, they leave a long-term effect on the victim. When
people use drugs are more often than not out of their character.
Although I am not a drug counselor I know both alcohol and drug abuse
has short term and long term effects on the victims. The short-term impact of
drugs is dependent on the amount of the substance used. All drugs have a
chemical that affects the normal functioning of the brain. Short-term impacts of
substance abuse include despaired judgment, heart palpitations, tremors,
hallucinations, memory impairments, coma, nausea or vomiting, slurred speech,
impaired coordination, and dizziness (Marcovitz, 2015). The long-term effect of
alcohol and drug abuse has severe physical and mental health on the victims.
Getting hooked on drugs is easy. When the body adapts intake of a foreign
substance, it requires the drugs in the system (Milhorn, 2014). In fact, it gets to a
point when the amount the victim takes no longer yields the desired feeling.
Regular intake of drugs causes the user to increase the amount of the substance
they take. Long-term effects cause significant interference in a person's healthy
life. It makes victims drop out of school, lose jobs, lose friends, destruction of
marriage and legal problems. These are some of the long-term results of abusing
alcohol and drugs, suicidal thoughts, high blood pressure, chronic diseases like
