FORENSIC PSYCHOPATHOLOGY 2
Abstract
Forensic psychology is a resultant branch from the interaction of the justice system and
psychology. The field is concerned with expert witnessing and the competence of a suspect to
stand trial (Meloy, 1996). Forensic psychologists play a critical role in the assessment of
offenders and the provision of support and training for other staff Millon (1996) also states that
they also work with such victims. Research is a further element of their work as is presenting
evidence in court and advising parole boards and mental health tribunals. It is concerned with the
suspect’s state of mind before and after committing the crime. The forensic scientist acts as the
expert witness as explained by Shapiro (1984). He or she is instrumental in determining whether
a suspect who is found guilty will receive lenience from the law. The aim of this paper is to
comprehensively cover a case study of a woman charged with the crime of arson. As opposed to
other methods of study, case study involves an in-depth study of one scenario. In the end, the
goal is to cover all the intricate details surrounding the case.
The study centers on an elderly woman by the name of Ms Hosp. She had troubled
and childhood because she was neglected by her parents. She did not experience enough parental
love which makes it difficult for her to build healthy relationships with the people in her life.
Thus, any form of neglecting person may cause negative attitudes in mind (Blau, 1984). The
study is intended to investigate the causes of criminal behavior. It is also aimed at assessing
predisposing factors such as family background. The study is also intended at finding out the
factors that precipitate the manifestation of these factors.
