Group Conformity
Groups are an essential aspect of success in our current world as they allow assemblage
of reason between different persons. They consist of different people with different ideologies;
however, groups possess their identities and characteristics that are different from the
identities and characteristics of the members; this can be referred to as group norms (Bose et
al., 2014). It insinuates that members of a particular group have one common value, behavior,
attitudes, and known patterns accepted by all group members (Sanaria, 2004). Matching a
specific group's identity and characteristics is referred to as conformity as a member
acknowledges the group norms.
However, in some instances, members can decide not to follow the group's norms and
uphold their own identities and characteristics, creating disparity; this is known as non-
conformity. Both group conformity and non-conformity are essential aspects of group success.
Group conformity champion's success since it creates a sense of reason the members team up
together and enables them to work under one shared vision, mission, and goal (Gençer, 2019).
A group that appreciates the group vision and mission allows the group to be focused on one
major thing that champions the team's success if all hindrances are held constant. On the other
hand, non-conformity creates alternative thinking or another way of performing tasks or duties.
By listening to all members' alternatives, a group can quickly identify the most viable alternative
and incorporate it in its operations which can foster the group's success.
Despite the advantages that non-conformity has, it has cons, which might lead to the
termination of the group. Having a non-conformer group is dangerous as members are not
