Models of Institutional Control
The models of institutional control are the instruments that are non-engineered and
usually applied by administrators for the purpose of minimizing occurrence of conflict in human
resource. The main aim of these models is to enhance the overall performance of organizations
(Lane, 2009). As mentioned, the models include; responsibility model, consensual and control
models. Each of the models is used for handling different issues within an organization.
However, some of the models are more suitable or preferable to manage some particular tasks
compared to the others. This paper will evaluate all the three models mentioned above and give
an opinion on the model that could be used effectively.
To begin with, the control model deals with regulating and monitoring of various
activities and the publics of an institution. The administration comes up with specific goals of
performance and direct specific employees to work on achieving the set goals. This is because
employees most of the time have different and diverse opinions on how to approach a given task.
Control model is for this reason instituted for the purpose of getting a balance or equilibrium
among the various opinions and at the same time provide the interests of each and every
stakeholder (Jones, Andrew & MacColl, 2006). The responsibility model on the other hand is
applied when the administration needs to specify particular parties that are responsible or
accountable of a given task. It separates the tasks that need to be performed and allocates each
task to a specific performer. Example is the structure of universities which defines the holders of
different offices from chancellor to the head of departments. Each party usually has a specific
responsibility; the model helps in eliminating or avoiding conflicts in roles within the
organization. The consensual model promotes consensus democracy within the organization. It
creates different opportunities for all the involved stakeholders and have the chance of
