Peer review to Mike Gurney’s Personal Research Narrative
Topic: Immigration and U.S. Crime Rate
Peer Review
The central theme and thesis of this research narrative is that regulation of
immigration policies is, statistically, unrelated to crime rates in the USA and most of the
public perceptions about the relationships between immigration and crime rates are based on
information from news and social media. I, personally, totally agree with this point of view
and I was very delighted and happy to see the support for this argument in this narrative
coming from authentic and reliable statistical researches. The paper, however, could be a
little more organized in the form of headings and subheadings to better identity different
chunks in the narrative. The narrative can be categorized into subheadings such as ‘factors
other than immigration issues that are related to crime rates in USA’ under which issues like
‘uneducated populace’, ‘demographic factors’, ‘prison education ‘and ‘aging population’
could be discussed. I think highlighting these issues is very crucial for proposing a solution to
the crime rates in the USA and base our opinions on facts rather than just media news and
mainstream and stereotypical perspectives. Other than this issue, the paper has a definitive
and clear introduction, thesis statement, and a conclusion. The statistical data comes mostly
from credible sources and the logical deductions and inferences are closely related to the
central idea, which is very impressive.
