Hope
Hope refers to the feeling of expectation and the wanting of certain happenings to take course.
This may also refer to the feeling of trust, which is build overtime with continued development of
strength, and believe in the surroundings despite the situations facing the person in question. It is from
these definitions that statements like hope against hope, hope for the best and the hope springs eternal
stem (Oxford 2013). This well puts hope as a strong spirit within a human mind that keeps them strong
and more motivated to press on despite the conditions surrounding. Hope is also the feeling that
something good is to come up from the developments to come as the believer keeps working on the
situation. Hope is a concept applied in building believes in the sick, the elderly and the dying as a tool of
making believe in a better day coming. It is also a positive approach to the psychological functioning of
the human mind (Carr 2004). Many sick patients keep improving as they keep raising their hopes above
the expectations of many. Doctors and nurses believe that hope is the only tool that keeps a person alive
as they fight for their lives. Some sicknesses relate to the psychological aspects of the human being and
these are what expedite healing. The elderly also strongly hold onto hope to propel them through the days
of their lives as they live on. Every day they age and they see how their age mates suffer or struggle to do
the little things they always did with a lot of fun. The dying relates to hope as the last resort. They hold
onto this that they still have a day or two to see the world that will also turn into a week or a month or
even a year. Hope is a psychological functioning of the human mind that gives it the impetus to carry on
despite the odds.
In the nature of hope developed in the article attached, hope is the emotion associated with
mastery, spirituality, survival and attachment. Hope is associated with a feeling tone and may raise
motivation for the hopeful (Averill, Catlin & Chon, 1990). Hope as an emotion, it builds mastery in the
sense that a person with hope has strong believe that he can do what he has always done since he has
mastered the art behind it due to regular or irregular repetitions of the same doing. Constant doing of

something creates mastery that relies on hope every time you face the same action as you have held
before. The internal spirit of humankind also holds hope at its highest level. Spirituality is the internal
strong believe in the aspects if ones living that may include biblical aspects, ones gods and the cultures
and norms that relate to their fore fathers. Hope as a content of spirituality looks at the internal feelings of
a person that makes them hope for the best. People that are in an environment where they feel their
powers cannot get them out hold onto hope. They hope that at least before the worst comes to the worst
someone will have come to their rescue. They hold onto hope for survival. Hope as an attachment to life
is as vital as the teachings that a baby undergoes while in the womb. A baby thrown in the air by the
parent but will come down laughing since he believes that they cannot let them down. They hope
naturally that all is well. This is more evident when a man or woman relates to the list of items that
identify with emotion, hope will sure future as the item top most. Ancient philosophers looked at hope as
a passion. Emotions relate constructively as the systems or networks around the mind and the body that
coordinates responses that relate to how people behave afterwards.
Hope refers to “a future-directed four channel emotional network, constructed from biological,
psychological, and social resources. The four constituent channels are the mastery, attachment, survival
and spiritual networks (sub networks). The hope network is designed to regulate these systems via both
feed-forward (extension) and feedback processes (maintenance) that generate a perceived probability of
power and presence as well as protection and liberation.” This hope network has four levels. The first
being the level that contains hopes related motives, the second looks at endowments and supports, the
third holds onto hope traits or the hopeful core while the fourth level holds onto the faith system and the
last being the hope behaviors. Hopes related motives surround the biological aspects that derive mastery,
attachments and survival. These are present from birth and they include the human nature to explore and
strive for mastery and to control the situation. The second level of endowments and supports are around
family, beliefs in spiritual nature and cultures. The hopeful core looks at the will to hope that makes you
develop hope in the end. The faith system also helps. The faith does not have to be religious but it is just
