Research topic: Importance of collaboration in leadership in enhancing homeland security and

emergency preparedness.

Introduction

Homeland security deals with the national efforts in the prevention of terrorist activities

within the United States of America. Homeland security is critical to the reduction in

vulnerability of the country to terrorism and reduction of the damages that results from the

terrorist attacks when they occur. It is notable that homeland security remains a principle concern

in the United States. Therefore, there is the need for emergency preparedness when it comes to

homeland security. Particularly, emergency preparedness is a critical aspect that entails the

collaboration of government policies at federal, state and local levels. The response to terrorist

attacks requires pre-planning, mid-planning and post reconstruction. This can only be carried out

successfully when there is adequate collaboration in government leadership to integrate

homeland security and emergency preparedness.

Therefore, the research on homeland security and emergency preparedness will bring a

comprehension of the types of emergency planning as well as management policies and

practicalities required in combating terrorist activities, the nature of the terrorist threat to the

United States which should encompass the motives for terrorism, counterterrorism policies, and

vulnerability assessment of the United States, the protection of infrastructure and any law

enforcement as well as constitutional issues that are related to the prevention of terrorism in the

United States.
