The Message

General University in Faisalabad we offer a wide range of courses in the fields through

Natural and Physical Sciences (Environmental Sciences, Botany, Chemistry, Industrial

Chemistry, Wild life and Fisheries, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, etc.) to Information

technology and Computer Sciences, Telecom. Engineering, Food and Home Sciences,

Law, Pharmacy, Management & Business Sciences, the Humanities, Social Sciences,

Fine Arts, and also in emerging areas of Bio-technology, Bio-informatics, etc. The

“Education” sector with its myriad challenges requires professional competence and

dedicated talent ultimately making the country’s human resources more productive. Our

academic programs have been designed to meet the needs of students, employers, and

the local/national/international community. We are an institution committed to excellence

in teaching and in an ever-increasing manner, to research and development. Through

ongoing curricula development and extensive course offerings, we continue to ensure

Welcome Message

Department of Food Science aims at developing scientific theories and technologies, as

well as human resources who support them, required for tackling global food, health and

resource and nutrition problems, which are facing humankind. To serve this mission of

department of Food Science, our Graduate and postgraduate programs base its

research and education on new practical science, which leads students to develop keen

sensitivity to problems, acquire basic and scientific knowledge and skills, and address

difficult problems through innovative means. The Department of Food Science provides

Master's and doctoral programs founded on departmental facilities and resources. As a

comprehensive Food and nutrition, the department, it responds to a wide variety of

education and research needs, providing diverse majors, such as molecular biology and

basic Nutrition science, which support health; fermentation science and food and

nutritional science, which support food and health; majors pertaining to the environment

that support the survival of humankind; majors that tackle food problems and difficulties

in developing countries and majors that help mid-career workers receive academic

instructions to formulate doctoral dissertations. In addition for this year, as part of the

degree's program a major aimed at elucidating the food safety and food microbiology

has been added.

BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The inspiration to develop a Department of Food Science at GC University Faisalabad

started in January, 2011 when Dr. Zakir Hussain, Vice Chancellor, honored Dr.

Muhammad Umair Arshad amd gave him a chnce to illustrate the important of formation

of new department as Food science. The timing was perfect when it was convinced, why

Food Science is inevitable. Thus permission was granted on January 2011 and on that

date the nation's first "Food Science" Department was born in GC university Faisalabad.

Entrepreneurial thinking and innovation, timing and seizing opportunities, a sense of

daring to try something new, recognizing needs and providing solutions, visionary faculty

– the qualities that make Food Science the top program in the GC today were there from

the very start. Take a tour through our history then see what we're up to now in the

Pakistan for Foods for Health and Wellness. Food Science led young dynamic faculty by

identifying and initiating important areas of teaching and research. The areas are in the

chronological order of Thermal Processing and Food Packaging, Fat and Oil

Chemistry/Flavor, Nutrition/Nutriceutical and functional food Science, Food Safety and

Microbiology. In addition to research and teaching, they were active in their respective

scientific/professional domains. Within two year, we organized two international

conferences as “Food and nutrition’’ and …………’’. Third international conference is
