The idea of applying supply chain to workers is an emerging and relevant concept. Companies
continue to look for ways to influence supply chains to produce a sustainable performance of their
businesses. Labor constitutes a large percentage of distribution expense for most companies and
with an increasing pressure on supply chain managers, to reduce costs, it is important to know the
impacts that comes with the implementation of labor supply chain.
Labor supply chain comprises of all the manual functions required to build and deliver products
from the supplier to the customer and to provide customer care. This approach however has some
shortcoming when it comes to workers;
Movement of workers from one geographical area to another is one of the major shortcoming of
this approach. This is because of the following reasons;
It is stressful to workers. A move from one place to another is usually very stressful. For the first
few days workers won’t know how to get around and this affects the performance of the workers.
Workers might also feel lonely because of lack of friends in the work place. It is also costly for
employees to move to new locations and to settle completely in the new place.
Employees who had been working in a certain locality may be disturbed and lose their morale due
to transfer to some other locations. Family members of the employee may also be psychologically
disturbed because they have to move to another place for which it might take a while get used to.
In case of transfer some employees might opt to resign because they might not be willing to leave
their current place of residence if that location is his native place.
