Clinical depression is a medical illness that affects one’ way of doing things, how he or
she acts and thinks out of his or her normal state. Persons suffering from this medical illness are
usually unable to perform their daily duties accordingly. They may result to changing diets, show
little interest in significant responsibilities of their lives, have weird moods and interaction with
other people may also be affected negatively. Clinical depression may lead to a person not being
her or himself.
It should be noted though that clinical depression is more severe than normal stress,
feeling bad for a short while then recovering or just depression. Therefore, individuals suffering
with it should be well taken care of and seek professional help. Clinical depression can last
weeks, months and even several years if not given the proper attention for it can lead to
individual becoming suicidal.
The illness can affect anyone for it does not recognize age, gender, color skin or even
ethnicity. Though common, it usually goes untreated as is the case in America where over 17
million people get affected. Its remedy can be offered by professional therapists or well-trained
medical health counselors.
Clinical depression is of various levels and types. Major Depression is one of the types.
This one usually affects one’s way of doing work, withdrawing for activities that the person like,
some change of diet and sleep. In one’s lifetime, it can occur more than once (Nicholas). The
second type is Dysthymia, this cause a person to stop feeling good about various activities that he
or she once felt good at some point. The chronic symptoms are not very severe as for major
depression and often hinder one from performing to full ability. The last form of clinical
