DRUGS 2
Drug legalisation is the process of eliminating the policy of prohibition of the drugs.
Most of the people may see this act as an unlawful since it might look to have several
limitations to the extent of outweighing the advantages. In a real sense, it has few reasons or
the benefits that may force the government to do so. Several authors have come up with
reasons as following;
The usage of any drug substances is so related to the act of crime in the society. When
the drugs are prohibited in a particular country, their prices rises with a significant margin.
The user will then tend to steal from other people so that they can be able to purchase drugs
and at the same time to have, some money left in the pocket so that they can be able to feed
their families. This is mostly seen in the people who are addicted. Therefore, when the drugs
are legalised, their prices will go down since most of the people will be selling and
purchasing the drugs. It, therefore, means that minimum wages will be enough to buy drugs
and at the same time to feed, the family thus the issue of the crimes will reduce in the society
(Ostrowski, 2009).
Most of the criminals in the prison are those who were jailed for the problems of the
drugs. It, therefore, means that when the drugs are legalised, no more people will be arrested
due to the drugs and thus reducing congestion in the prison.
When someone is arrested, he might even take more than six months before he comes
for the trial. Most of the cases are kept pending in the court since the judges have no enough
time to cover all the cases at a required time. Therefore, when the drugs are legalised the
number if the situations in the court will have reduced. The judges will then get enough time
to cover other cases meaning that suspects will get his trial in the right time thus coagulating
the system of the court (Belenko, 2008).
