The surprising alliance between the Soviet Union and the United States of America
during the World War II has greatly been viewed by many diplomats as an action of necessity.
The United States and the Soviet Union at that time were desperate to find a partner who had a
realization in mind that each country needed the help of another country for it to be able to defeat
the dangerous forces of the twentieth century. However, after the end of World War II the
differences in their ideologies came into existence again hence the relationships between the two
countries has not been good since then (Koenker, Diane & Ronald, 1997).
The main reason why the relation deteriorated is because of the differences between the
political systems of the two nations. The two countries hold a different point of view hence they
are always suspicious of themselves. America thought that Russia was trying the spread the idea
of communism to the world while Russia on their side thought that America which was a self-
proclaimed capitalist nation was trying to take over thus making the communist power non-
existent. Just after the World War II, the tensions between two nations who were either
communist or capitalist created a cold war that is still going on until now (Haslam, 1997).
America and the Soviet Union have always also had different approaches to solving some
disasters that can be facing the world. For instance, in times of war, the United States has always
looked for amicably softer ways of solving the wars without necessarily going to war. The Soviet
Union on their side are somehow tough and would consider going to the extent of fighting for
them to end such a conflict. This has made the two countries largely disagrees on international
diplomatic missions. The other reason for the great rift in the relationships between two countries
is that each country has always tried to be the superpower at the expense of the other. There is,
therefore, a fight of power between the United States and the Soviet of whom should be
recognized globally as the stronger one (Chang, 1990).
