Multiculturalism
Multiculturalism refers to the existence of various cultures that are manifested in different
behavioral patterns, communicative styles, as well as cultural beliefs and values. These diverse
cultures include ethnic, religious, racial, as well as cultural groups among others. These varied
cultures are accepted, promoted and consequently coexist in the same locality or jurisdiction.
Multiculturalism is established when different groups from various localities across the group
move into a jurisdiction or when a jurisdiction is establishing by moving into areas occupied by
different cultures (Lentin & Titley, 2011). The multicultural beliefs as well as the ideologies vary
significantly and can range from various ideas were all cultures are treated equally in the
jurisdiction to policies that strive to promote cultural diversity and different people are treated
depending on the group they belong to in the jurisdiction.
America is a multicultural community that constitute of vary many individuals from various
cultures either by nationality or ethnic or racial background. All these groups have established
themselves in the country and are well known and accepted. These multicultural live in some
jurisdictions and this guarantees America a multicultural country. Some cultures are subdivided
depending on skin color to racial cultures. Although these cultures do not receive equal
treatments in the country, they are still classified under the same topic as multicultural
community (Modood, 2013).
Multiculturalism is regarded a controversial issue in America based on the fact that different
people have varied issues in life. People share different likes and dislikes in life and, hence some
people find multiculturalism controversial while others do not. The controversy of
multiculturalism is based on the fact that American multiculturalism emerges from the idea that
