How are molecules of life similar and how are they different? Explain for each group.
Molecules of life are composed of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acid. They
both have similarities one being that all of them have the following elements carbon, hydrogen,
and oxygen. Also, all of them are oxidized so also to produce energy in the body.
The differences are that carbohydrates can dissolve in water while lipids cannot dissolve
in water. Also nucleic acid is the body buildings of DNA and RNA while sugar is the body building
of carbohydrates and also proteins.
Also carbohydrates are used in living things as a source of energy while proteins are used
in living things as body buildings.
What special characteristics of phospholipids allow them to be the building blocks of cell
membranes?
Phospholipids obtain their structural assortment through branching and chemical
assortment. Branching is essential in phospholipids as all phospholipids will be able to be
branched, and they use a special kind of chemical that is not found in any other kind of cellular
building blocks which is referred to as saturation of hydrocarbons. Also, phospholipids are
considered to be not to be polymers of a modest structure hence considered to be less diverse.
