Make sure you have explored the site for sports nutrition information before posting a two
paragraph answer to the following question:
•· What did you learn about sports nutrition from reading the article?
The article that I read and found interesting was “Herbs and Athletes, by Susan Kundrat, MS,
RD, LDN. This article explains how various types of herbs help the health and performance of
athletes. I have always heard that Echinacea was an ancient Chinese herb that was fruitful in the
sense of alleviating colds; however, I had no idea that this herb really does not produce the relief
of colds in which it states it does. Not to mention, the utilization of various herbs in association
with athletes are one that should not be recommended.
In fact, according to the article, it stated athletes and those that are associated to training these
athletes need to make sure that they are all aware of the possible side effects that these various
herbs produce; especially if the athlete themselves on other medications. In fact, many of the
herbs mentioned in the article have, to some degree, a fundamental property that only help to
suppress the immune system and help to relieve joint pain. There is a much needed desire for
further research on herbs and whether they are effective and safe for athletes to use.

Note: Sometimes it's hard to know who or what to believe when you are bombarded by so much
information. Keep in mind that it's important to get your information from reliable sources.
