When it comes to the education of a deaf or vision impaired student, the age of on set is
very important since it determines how quickly the student will be able to cope and learn to use
available assistive technology. Assistive technology refers to the assistive, adaptive and
rehabilitative devices that persons with disabilities use and comprises the process used in
locating, selecting and using them. Assistive technology promotes independence that enables the
deaf or vision impaired people to perform tasks that formerly they were unable to accomplish or
had difficulties accomplishing. Therefore the earlier a deaf or vision impaired person is
introduced to appropriate and available assistive technology the better the person will get to
catch up either in education or other day to day activities.
Reflection
In reflection to the videos having a vision or hearing impairment would greatly a to ffect
my education and day to day activities. Life as I am used to would not be the same since the
independence I have of doing things with little assistance would be very minimal. Under certain

circumstances where availability of assistive technology may be hard to come by then this may
pose a big problem to not only getting education but also having a better future. Relying on me
without the assistive technology may take longer since I will have to learn things the hard way
which might take longer than is usual.
With the availability of assistive technology devices such as shown in the videos then a
bit of self-reliance will be acquired. Learning will be easier since typing and voice recognition
assisting devices will help me when taking notes or reading already prepared notes. Other
devices such as the custom made laptops and desktops that come with software’s created to serve
the vision and hearing impaired will also assist me to undertake researches in the internet create
personal learning materials and may be socializing in the available social networks.
Assignment
From the research I conducted I came across a number of devices that could be so helpful
when it comes to providing a comfortable assistance to the following problems Meltzer,(109).
Analysing the first problem which is visual Impairment; it comes to my knowledge that visual
problems vary so as the instrument and the technology to handle the problem in question.
Once a patient is pronounced partially blind, it will be confortable to first start by introducing
some lenses to them before going ahead with anything else. For such impairment we have the
following mechanism and technology that have been proven active to the affected.
1. Screen Magnifiers: This is software that allows the patient to be able to access the
internet and the computer by magnifying the contents to ease the eyes from straining.
