Legalization of marijuana, gay marriages and immigration have been hot topics in the
US. Immigration has been there for quite a long duration and has widely been politicked with for
decades, if not centuries. However, the outspoken nature of the current Republican presidential
candidate Donald Trump on the topic has rejuvenated it and skyrocketed in to a new
stratosphere. This however, might not be of a huge impact to the less political public as the issue
of gun ownership, gun control and the related legalization and licensing is concerned. Over a
long time, there have been different arguments for and against gun ownership. Various factors
have influenced the ownership itself as well as the control of the firearms either by individuals or
by families. Recently, there have been many shootings by individual citizens and in some case
by law enforcers. It is also a fact that in this error of terrorism every American is more vigilant
with regards to firearms than they were before. Demographics, as will be shown in this paper,
indicate that more people with higher income own guns than those with lower incomes (Esposito,
& Finley 2014). Funnier still, most crimes that involve firearms are committed by people of
lower incomes in the society. That could sound a very great significance for, and warrant the
argument for, gun ownership. The statistics of the lower and upper class and gun ownership
suggests that there are two sided explanations. One of them is that of self-defense involving the
rich who might be subject to more attacks, robberies and kidnappings. Thus, this paper will
argue, not against gun ownership, but for tighter gun control rules at the wake of numerous
shootings throughout the country. It will also argue for less ambiguity in rules governing
carrying and use of guns at any place in such a way that Federal, State and Local Authority laws
do not contradict or confuse the would be users of the guns or those that might directly or
indirectly be involved. It will involve looking at the statistics and public opinion and then
