Effective Collaborative Strategies
Common Goal
As we approach the Christmas Eve holidays, one of my company's Corporal and Social
Responsibility (CSR) initiatives is bringing together and nurturing the talents of the younger
members of the community by hosting a sports event, following which the winning team players
receive full school sponsorship as a courtesy from our company. The organizing team usually is
chosen at random, and this year I was chosen along with my other three coworkers, which was a
pleasant surprise. The company's senior management tasked us with the responsibility of
overseeing all of the planning. Even though I had previously attended several events, I had little
knowledge about event planning and organizing. However, it was only through collaborative
efforts and teamwork that we could host a momentous occasion.
We had several things to do to plan the event successfully. First and foremost, we needed
to find a suitable location for the event. Because more than one thousand kids and parents were
expected to attend the event, the second step was to get permission from the local authorities and
local police security protection. Everyone who came to the event was also provided with
beverages and small refreshments, which we had planned ahead of time. We also leased a sound
system to keep the children and teenagers entertained during the event. Most significantly, as
event organizers, we were also needed to give a brief welcome statement to all attendees to
inform them of the subject of the event and the prizes that would be presented after the event.
Even though we had several difficulties throughout the planning phase, we overcame them by
using excellent collaboration tools and techniques to ensure the event's success.
